AmsterJam at Randall's Island
with Red Hot Chili Peppers, Snoop Dogg, Garbage, Peaches, 311, Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe, Bootsy Collins
The inaugural AmsterJam — a mash-up festival that only ran twice. Bootsy Collins curated this experimen around live crossovers: RHCP with Snoop and Bootsy (including “Sex Machine”), Garbage with Peaches, 311 with Wyclef Jean, Fat Joe with Héctor el Father.
The Chili Peppers whole set was memorable for the wrong reasons. Anthony Kiedis was awkward af. Not only was he off-key, frantic, and sloppy, but whiny and complaining while Flea played peacemaker, siding with the crowd and telling stories about recently eating delicious blueberries. This one soured my interest in the Chilis.
